"Cash is King, but which King?"
One of the most common questions I get: "Should I bring Euros or Liras?" The answer is: Both.
The Currency Rule
- Inside the Resort: Everything is priced in Euros (€). Spa treatments, cabanas, extra wines. You can pay with card, and it will convert, but the base price is Euro.
- Outside the Resort (Shops, Taxis): Turkish Lira (₺) is better. If you pay in Euros, they will give you a bad exchange rate.
Tipping Etiquette
Tipping is not mandatory but highly appreciated. In luxury resorts, the staff works incredibly hard.
- Bellboy: 5-10 Euros (or equivalent in Lira) upon arrival.
- Housekeeping: Leave a small amount (50-100 Lira) on the pillow daily. You will get extra chocolates and water.
- Waiters: If you have a dedicated waiter for the night, 10-20 Euros at the end of the meal ensures you get VIP service for the rest of your stay.
- Butler: If you are in a villa, tip your butler at the end of the stay. 50-100 Euros is standard for a week of good service.
Chef's Note
Don't tip with coins (1 Euro coins). They cannot exchange them at the bank. Use paper money (5 Euro notes or Lira).
